On 9 March 2017, a public discussion in Gjakovë/Djakovica focused on the topic of tourism development in this region, and the potential of public and private sector collaboration and participation in planning and implementation.
Addressing the participants, Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry Avni Kastrati said “Our goal is common – develop tourism. For those already employed, we should seek to create better conditions. For the jobless, create employment opportunities. We can do a lot more in this sector.”
The public discussion facilitator presented the findings from regional experience in establishing a national tourism organization and encouraged debate whether such an entity is needed in Kosovo. Silvana Domi, Director of Economic Development in the Municipality of Gjakovë/Djakovica said “We are developing new policies and concepts for tourism products. Our vision for Gjakovë/Djakovica as a tourism destination is based on three pillars: cultural tourism, adventure tourism and a food/gastronomy destination.”
The public discussion was organized by Democracy for Development and PPSE.
