For two days, a group of individual waste pickers from the Roma community living in Gračanica/Graçanicë got together to discuss about issues impacting their work. The workshop was organized by PPSE and G-PLUS, a company dealing in waste recycling and collaborates closely with the individual pickers.

The purpose of the workshop organized on 10-11 December 2018 was to engage these individual waste pickers in a discussion on how to maximize their income generation activity, and also use their own inputs and recommendations to improve working conditions. The discussion also sought the ideas of participants to design additional activities that result in more income for the people involved in waste collection, and basically, make the system work better for the pickers involved.

The ideas generated from the workshop will help the private sector dealing with waste collection to better understand the needs and operating conditions of the individual pickers, put in place additional measures that improve working conditions and help collectors earn more through their work.
