Cultivation of peppermint is highly profitable as there is a great export potential for that. This is still an untapped opportunity in Kosovo, and with good agricultural practices and networking can increase income at the farming level and employment, especially for women.
To introduce farming of peppermint – mentha piperita - in line with organic certification in Kosovo, PPSE has partnered with Era shpk, an exporter of non-wood forest products. At a meeting with a group of farmers from the eastern region, company representatives shared information on the benefits of cultivating this plant and practical steps.
PPSE has partnered with Era shpk, an exporter of non-wood forest products in Kosovo, to introduce farming of this plant in line with organic certification. This aim is to establish three-year contracts with 20 new farmers in Podujevë/o, Prishtinë/Priština, and Novobërdë/Novobrdo. This is happening for the first time. In addition, this intervention will help establish a good network with the local and international actors and service providers.
This is part of the PPSE intervention “Commercializing Cultivation of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants.”
