Cultivation of Medicinal Aromatic Plants is an Attractive Opportunity for Rural Women

Sage and calendula are the two medicinal and aromatic plants (MAPs) that a group of 15 women farmers in Kosovo will begin to cultivate and sell, thus generating more income for their families. This activity is facilitated by “99 Lule” company that is run by a woman, and supported by PPSE under the commercialization of cultivation of MAPs activity.

At the orientation workshop organized on 26 May 2017, the women farmers were informed about the seedlings and the irrigation system that will be provided to them, and received practical advice for on-farm activities from the advisor engaged by “99 Lule”, and signed contracts.

"This is the first time that they are signing these contracts,” said Havushe Bunjaku, owner of “99 Lule”, adding that this is a positive development. “All of us will work hard in the next two years, as the goal is to expand and improve our marketing and promotion.”

The overall outcome of this collaboration between PPSE, “99 Liule” and the women farmers is to promote cultivation of MAPs, increase income and employment, and promote the principles of organic certification.
